The drawings and paintings in the book come from his work in picture books and other works including films and graphic novels. Others were created for no specific purpose beyond the desire to see what something looks like, or just to follow a sketched line to see where it goes. Many works are previously unpublished. As the title suggests the collection and accompanying essays by Shaun explore his use of non-human creatures as a motif throughout his artwork. She has moved between Western Australia, Java and Borneo in the last decade. Residing in different countries has been hugely influential on her work, particularly the native flora and the effect of climate on a landscape and its plants. Culturally, Southeast Asia has been hugely influential from a printmaking point through traditional clothing like Batik when manufactured on a small scale using woodblock printing. Nicola’s fine art practice has been centred around relief printing for its tactility and physicality. She has a love of pattern and repetition, with a lot of her imagery, especially fish, becoming a surface for pattern. Drawing from life and redrawing that image to a point where it is the right format for a relief print creates an image which is altered. The act of carving it changes it again as it is recreated as a physical lino or wood block, then becoming an impression of that on paper. The physical process of printing becomes a pattern itself, carving, inking, printing and repeating to end up with editions of an image in repeat.

PLEASE NOTE: SHIPPING COSTS ARE NOT INCLUDED OR CALCULATED AT THE CHECKOUT FOR THIS ITEM

Collection from Mundaring Arts Centre can be arranged at no charge. Following his first contact in 1984, Warlimpirrgna and his family moved to Kiwirrkura, where he has remained for most of his life. Shortly after arriving in Kiwirrkura, Warlimpirrgna began painting for Papunya Tula Artists, showing remarkable talent. During mythological times, a large group of Tingari men commenced their journey at this site. They travelled in a large circle, before finally returning to Wilkinkarra. This story forms part of the Tingari Song Cycle, a closely guarded mythology the specifics of which are known only to initiated Pintupi. In general, the Tingari were a group of ancestral beings who traversed the country, creating and transforming its features through their adventures.Warlimpirrgna’s distinct style references the iconography of men’s body decoration, specifically those used in the in the ceremonial performance of stories from the Tingari Song Cycle.
