Wildflower Stitch Series: Western Woody Pears with Sujora Conrad
In Week 3 of our Weekly Wildflower Stitch Series we were joined by contemporary mixed media artist Sujora Conrad. In this video tutorial you'll learn to embroider the Western Woody Pear using a contemporary, simplified version of Blackwork embroidery. Blackwork, was used in the 16th century to embellish women’s clothing and was also known as ’poor man’s lace’.
Sujora is a contemporary artist drawing inspiration from land, place and the botanical realm. She has facilitated a range of exciting fibre workshops for women in remote and coastal communities. You might recognise her work from The Botanical - Beauty and Peril at the Art Gallery or Western Australia (2019), or FIBRE at the Holmes a Court Gallery (2020).
