ABOUT THE ARTIST 

Muia’s works reflect both the representational qualities of our surroundings and our relationships with the environment. Through his works, he explores a synergy between figuration and the natural world and considers the history and traditions of printmaking, including its strong ties to illustration and storytelling. 

Muia received his Diploma of Fine Arts in Painting from Claremont School of Art in 1989. His first solo exhibition was at Gomboc Gallery in 1990, and he has since exhibited in numerous solo and group shows around Australia. Muia was a finalist in the Dobell Drawing Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Benalla Nude Art Prize at Benalla Art Gallery in Victoria and won the Erotic Art Prize at Breadbox Gallery in Perth. His works are represented in numerous prestigious collections, including the Kerry Stokes Collection, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Royal Perth Hospital, University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University, and Murdoch University.
