ABOUT THE ARTIST
Juluwarlu Art Group is a collective of Yindjibarndi artists who celebrate Yindjibarndi Country, culture and language through a diverse range of artistic practices. The collective is based in Ieramagadu (Roebourne), a town of approximately 900 people which is located in the remote north-western Pilbara region of Western Australia, while the ancestral homeland of the artists, Yindjibarndi Country, surrounds the nearby Millstream Tablelands and Fortescue River area.
Judith Coppin paints with her grandchildren as a way of teaching them about their country and important cultural information she needs to pass down. It gives the younger people an opportunity to learn about their culture while giving them the confidence to explore painting.
Judith is an Yindjibarndi Elder and Cultural Custodian, highly respected artist and community worker. Since 2010, Judith has been creating beautiful acrylic paintings on canvas. In the past three years she has extended her art practices to her very beautiful yarranga marni (carved boards), her artworks are highly valued and selected for major Perth-based exhibitions.
