This depicts the perennial herb Dampiera wellsiana, which has a lifespan of over two years, and is an evergreen, 5 to 30 cm tall.
It is a native of southern Western Australia, flowering from August till December. Near Mullewa it can be seen alongside Pindar’s Wreath Flowers.
The Prickly Gecko (Heteronotia binoei) occurs across much of Australia. Its colouring mimics surrounding soil, from darkish to reddish brown. It grows to 11 – 12 cm, and is covered with scales, which appear rough, but are soft to touch. It cleans its eyes with its tongue.
It is found in many habitats and is often the most abundant reptile in many arid areas. But it usually only leaves its shelter at night to hunt moths and grasshoppers. It flees quickly when disturbed.
