ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carmela Corvaia graduated in 1983 with a degree in Fine Art from WAIT, then continued studying Fine Art in Italy in 1985-86. Returning to Perth, she continued her art practice and worked in Object Conservation at the WA Museum. Highlights of Corvaia’s early work include installations at PICA, for Feminisms 1992 and Torque the Fourth Artists’ Regional Exchange 1995. More recently she completed studio residencies at Fremantle Art Centre (2018 and 2019) culminating in a solo exhibition at Moore’s Building Contemporary Art Gallery, Fremantle, and in 2020 participated in Sculptures at Bathers Beach with a large-scale woven fibre artwork.
