ABOUT THE ARTIST

Niven learnt his skills as an apprentice to local craftsman Antonio Battistessa, and has gone on to develop his own style. Working out of his studio in Mount Helena, the artist hand forges sculptural and functional forms from steel and locally sourced timbers. His skillfully crafted works are highly sought after in the WA Swan Valley region due to their organic yet strong nature which echoes a distinctly Australian feel. Each piece is unique in how it draws out the natural texture and form from the material.
