Artist Bios
Jacky Cheng is a visual artist based on Yawuru Country, Broome, Western Australia. Working across sculpture and installation, her practice engages paper and fibre as carriers of memory, drawing on familial histories, cultural rituals and intergenerational narratives. Through processes of folding, weaving and accumulation, Cheng examines questions of identity, belonging and the shifting relationships between people, place and cultural inheritance. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the Cheongju Craft Biennale (2025), National Art School touring exhibition (2025–27), Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (2024), Art Gallery of Western Australia (2023) and Geumgang Nature Art Biennale (2020). She received the Fremantle Print Award (2023), John Stringer Prize (2022) and Jury Art Prize (2021).
Eva Fernández is an interdisciplinary artist born in Toronto, Canada and based in Perth, Western Australia. Working across photography, installation, video, digital media, and stitch, her research-led practice integrates photography, textile processes and archival research. Drawing on personal and family archives, Fernández investigates identity, feminism, memory and diasporic experience through the lens of migration, exile and intergenerational trauma. Her work examines how personal and collective histories continue to shape memory, belonging and constructions of womanhood. Through embroidery and material intervention, she re-inscribes historical narratives, creating works that bear witness to the past while opening space for reflection, resistance and cultural repair.
