STITCHING FROM NATURE EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP | SUSIE VICKERY

Join exhibiting textile artist, Susie Vickery in this three-hour botanical stitch workshop, taking a closer look at our native flora to illustrate them with stitch. Using free-style hand embroidery, gain the skills to stitch leaves and blossoms, building up colour and texture. 

Referencing real foliage and images of plants in blossom, this workshop teaches participants of all skill levels the techniques to confidently apply embroidered stitch to fabric.

All materials provided. Participants are welcome to bring along their own base fabric and sewing kit. 

ARTIST BIO

Susie worked for over two decades as a costumier for theatre in the UK and Australia before moving to South Asia, where she studied embroidery and worked in craft development.

She worked as a craft consultant with income-generation projects in India, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Mexico and Turkey, responding to local materials and artistic traditions. Her work in community engagement and development forms the inspiration for her storytelling through embroidered animations, puppets, automata and textile pieces.
