ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Perth, Australia in 1981, Kyle Hughes-Odgers is a painter, illustrator, and public artist celebrated for his bold geometric forms, stylised figures, and vibrant large-scale public works. Hughes-Odgers has exhibited extensively across Australia and internationally, including 17 solo exhibitions and projects in Los Angeles, New York, Singapore, Berlin, Hong Kong, Iceland, and Europe. His practice spans murals, painting on canvas and board, book illustration, and public art, often exploring narrative, nature, and human connection.
Hughes-Odgers has completed numerous landmark public art commissions.
"This print was inspired by my large drawing installation at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. I wanted to make an all over linework print that was different to the install but shared a feeling. The title comes from a line my six-year-old daughter wrote in one of the comics she loves to make: “In the dark I feel calm.” This phrase reflects the intention behind the AGWA installation and captures the sense of comfort and stillness I find in my art practice—the quiet, happy place that drawing allows me to enter.". - Kyle Hughes-Odgers
