
Recycled Jewellery Series | Melissa Cameron
In this series of three ‘Sunday sessions’ you will explore the properties of scrap metals and plastics, learning about their suitability for jewellery and basic clean-up techniques.
Lesson 1: Recycled copper wire. Using the provided recycled materials, you will strip copper wire from its plastic sheath, then design, cut and manipulate this wire combined with recycled and found materials to make jewellery and other objects.
Lesson 2: Manipulating Plastic. Learn the difference between plastic numbers, which ones can be heat manipulated and how to do it safely, while making a blank to work with in week 3.
Lesson 3: It’s time to combine…using the skills and materials of previous weeks, learn basic cutting and finishing techniques on plastic to make technically literate, refined and unique works of art.
Melissa will supply pre-made stainless steel earring hooks as well as silk and waxed linen cord to hang pendants.

Artist Bio
Melissa Cameron is a Perth-based jeweller and public artist. She has lived in Naarm/Melbourne and on Duwamish lands in Seattle, USA. She holds a BA in Interior Architecture and a Postgrad Diploma in Jewellery Production from Curtin University, and an MFA in Jewellery and Metalsmithing from Monash University.
