ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shanti Gelmi is an Australian born child of migrant Indian parents and, as a child, spent lengthy periods of time living in the West Australian outback and Perth Hills region whilst spending holiday time in India. Her upbringing has been heavily influenced by the Catholic faith, Indian culture and associated traditions and festivals which she rejected as a means of fitting in in Australia. Her art practice is allowing her to explore this 'other' space as a means of understanding cultural relationships as they evolve and are refined as reactions to experiences.
