ABOUT THE ARTIST

Susanna Hawkes has been interested in the stereotyping of gender in the Arts and finds an unapologetic desire to paint "little floral" pieces. Her subject matter and the scale is domestic, yet some of the hard edged, jagged and almost savage leaf shapes and lines give reference to the inner strength of women. The resin finish gives the pieces a sense of enduring. Susanna spent her formative years in Africa. Her art training, including BA in Fine Art, has been in Australia.
