'Septindienu' Sterling Silver and Brass Ring Jana Wallace Braddock of Volasa.

MATERIALS: Sterling Silver and Brass

DIMENSIONS and DETAILS: 

This ring is made from solid sterling silver and shaped in the spirit of traditional Latvian SEPTIŅDIENU (7-day ring). The band is formed from 1.8mm x 1.9mm square silver, giving it a refined, structured profile. Seven brass tassels hang freely from the top of the ring, adding warm contrast and gentle movement.


The ring weighs 5.4g with an internal diameter of 17.5mm, making it a size O. Each brass tassel measures 12mm, and from the top of the band to the bottom of the tassel the full drop is 25mm.


The symbols engraved into the band reflect key elements of Latvian heritage:


  • Jumis — wellbeing, fertility, abundance

  • Māra — the highest divinity of motherhood

  • Mārtiņš — productivity and prosperity

  • Laima — the fates and the shaping of destiny

  • Zalktis — wisdom, knowledge and spiritual insight

  • Devis — light, clarity, and goodness

  • Ūsiņš — god of light and spring

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jana W Braddock is the practicing artist behind Volasa creations. Born to Latvian parents, Braddock draws inspiration from her rich cultural heritage.   Her deep appreciation for the intricate patterns and symbolism of traditional Latvian folk art and costumes, blended with a modern, minimalist aesthetic – results in timeless, well-crafted contemporary pieces that transcend the boundaries of tradition and innovation.
