About the Artist:
Ric Burkitt’s recent work explores the notion of expression
through the abstract, making connections on an emotional
level. While for many years he avoided abstraction,
now he describes it as an incessant buzz in his mind,
providing endless ideas and projects to explore. For
Burkitt, abstraction provides both freedom and a delicious
frustration.
In addition, Burkitt’s contemporary realist paintings are
informed by his non-representational work: spontaneous
responses to the nearby countryside that seek to interpret
and react in a semi-abstract way, rather than reproduce.
For Burkitt, in these semi-abstract paintings, the essence of
the complicated can often be found, veiled in the mundane.
