ABOUT THE ARTIST
Christian Rendtorff is a Boorloo/Perth-based maker who specialises in upcycling Western Australian timber. Born and raised in Germany, Rendtorff has a trade in cabinetmaking and a background making historical models for the Heidelberg Museum. In 1988, Christian moved to Western Australia where he began his practice in working with native timbers. Inspired by Danish design, Rendtorff admires simple lines and minimal hardware, however he often lets the shape of the timber – the knots and curved edges – dictate the design of a piece. Rendtorff hopes that people can appreciate the beauty of a repurposed piece of timber and how he transforms it into a vessel worth admiring.
